New Plantings
Ula and I have been getting the vege patch back up and running. We started with seeds in loo roll cardboard and I am hooked easy to thin out the excess and plant the whole thing in the ground.
We planted these seeds Beans, Kale, Lettuce and Tomato on the 4th of February, and planted the Beans into the garden on the 13th February cardboard and all so easy…… yesterday I put in Spinach and Silverbeet and am going to give Carrots a go as well.
Plentiful Orchard
The School buses have been canceled and the main road is close due to land slides, we have had nearly 100ml this morning! So I am back on the computer. We had reasonably fine weather yesterday and got some great shots of our plentiful orchard. We probably have nearly 70 quinces on one tree so many that the boughs are drooping and I am unable to cover them all ( from the fruit fly and fruit bats )
Also Bananas, Golden Tamarillos , Blood Oranges and Avocados…
Lastly on my first blog (last year) I talked of a weed flower named Mont Brecia that made a green colour on silk well I remembered to get a photo this time round as it only flowers once a year.
Although the colour this time round was more Orange / Yellow!
Ula’s new scarf
Ula has been begging me for her own silk scarf , or course she wanted blues and purple and a little bit of pink…. bit hard to achieve with natural dye, so I talked her into trying tie dye ( the concept she didn’t get ) I had to show her some pictures . I have some acid dyes that you mix with water and fix in the microwave , and hey presto one happy girl … Jasper wants a T shirt now .
We have had plenty of rain in the last week and all the flowers are looking wonderful
I have been busy felting , crocheting & knitting for my stall next weekend….
Beans up
So far so good….
I have picked pea shoots for omelette’s and stir fry’s and Ula has added some
little friends to our garden .
The tomato and bean seeds all came up ….
tomato ” St Pierre ” a bush type and the bean variety ” Strike “
“Bulls Blood” beetroot is another that went in
more for their great leaf , of course all from Eden Seeds .
over grown vege patch
Summer is over and the vege patch went feral, I can’t compete with the weeds and my frozen shoulder has meant the digging is way to strong for me cope with . Pete has pulled off the bird net and pulled the bigger stuff out and I think we will sheet mulch heavily , till I can get back into the digging ….. In the mean time Ula and I have started a micro greens garden on the deck.
I have added to these trays with some other pots with beans , tomato and some shallots . The snow pea shoots are already big enough to harvest , I have in my usual style over planted but we plan to snip and eat so I hope it will work OK.
